Introducing Berni & Murcer's Dream Creators!
Berni & Murcer - Friends for Life is deeply grateful to our remarkably talented team of collegiate interns, aka the “Dream Creators," who are from all corners of our nation and world!
They are: Luke Lerner (Weston HS), Henry Liu (University of California-Irvine) and Ashley Xu (Northwestern University) (Mobile App and Video Game Development); Isabelle Chin (Northwestern University) and Alex Keenan (Tulane University) (Social Media Engagement); and Tyler Thompson (Creative Consultant, Tyler Thompson Creative, LLC). Mihir Khetale (University of New Haven) completed his summer internship with us at the end of August. Thank you Mihir for your wonderful and creative contributions to our organization!
As a recipient of the “Newman’s Own Foundation” Community Grant Award, our dedicated team of interns have “tangibilitated” being a “Newmanitarian” by putting their passion and empathy for the “Common Good” into action by working collaboratively and selflessly in transforming the way Berni & Murcer - Friends for Life brings hope and healing to children diagnosed with cancer (and their families) through the creation and development of fun and exciting virtual engagement activities through the use of a Berni & Murcer Mobile App and Video Games.
These new innovations will enhance the multi-dimensional and therapeutic healing experience for children with cancer and turn the trauma, pain and fear into hope, comfort and encouragement for a brighter, healthier tomorrow. "Based on the findings, computer games seem to be effective as a tool in influencing health-related behavior and improving the Quality of Life(QOL) of children undergoing chemotherapy. Therefore, according to the findings of this study, computer games can be used to improve the QOL of children undergoing chemotherapy." (Source: NIH, 2017)

The late, legendary film actor, humanitarian and advocate for children with cancer, Chadwick Boseman, who tragically lost his battle with colon cancer at age 43, knew the importance of something as simple as a video game to a child battling cancer.
"...It's something meaningful to them. It's the anticipation of the chance to experience even a toy or a video game. It made me think back to being a kid...you wait for these moments..."
Thank You Chadwick for being a "Superhero" to ALL children, both on and off the screen with your soulful wisdom, strength, compassion and understanding in a way that only a real-life Superhero could AND for being a shining North Star for our mission. May you Rest in Power. #LoveForever
